A store owner selling leather accessories is choosing between two Archetype themes: Motion and Impulse. While aesthetically preferring Motion, they’re concerned it may receive fewer updates compared to Impulse, which appears to be the developer’s priority.
Key considerations raised:
Design approach: Motion offers dynamic visuals and storytelling elements suited for lifestyle branding, while Impulse is more conversion-focused with streamlined product grids and filtering
Stability concerns: Both trial versions showed instability issues; recommendation is to verify whether the theme or existing configuration/apps are causing problems
Future support: Impulse appears to receive more frequent updates currently, though Motion remains popular
Additional discussion points:
Neither theme includes built-in chat functionality; users should integrate apps like Tidio or Shopify Inbox instead
For budget-conscious buyers, recommendations include checking recently uploaded themes in the Shopify store, waiting for seasonal discounts, or exploring free alternatives like Refresh or Crave
Purchasing from external developers raises concerns about guaranteed updates and legitimacy
Consensus: If long-term stability and regular updates are priorities, Impulse may be safer; if current features and aesthetic alignment matter most, Motion could work well. Contacting Archetype directly about update roadmaps is advised.

Hello everyone,
We have a Shopify store selling accessories like Leather Wallets & Bags etc. We are currently using a standalone theme and plan to get a premium theme through Shopify Themes in the near future.
We like Archetype’s design type/lang very much and have reviewed all their themes. We liked Streamline at first, but it was eliminated by us due to the target audience and a few glaring flaws.
We are experiencing a lot of instability in Motion and Impulse theme. “Trial” versions of both themes were installed and tested. To be sincere, my heart has always been with Motion. But the part that pushes me to Impulse is that Impulse seems to be a bit more like the apple of the developer’s eye. We are afraid that with the updates Impulse will receive in the future, Motion will remain like a stepchild.
Hey @merdane
If you are concerned about Motion falling behind and want ongoing support and regular updates, Impulse may be a better bet. However, if you’re happy with Motion’s current feature set, it could still provide a solid foundation for your store.
Recommendation:
If Motion speaks to your heart and aligns with your store’s brand vision, you may choose to stick with it for its aesthetic and features. However, if you value long-term stability, updates, and performance, Impulse may be the better choice. Consider contacting Archetype directly to discuss.
Key considerations include target audience and design fit.
Motion is known for its dynamic visuals, animations, and storytelling elements. It’s ideal for brands with a younger audience or those looking to tell a compelling brand story through animations. Motion could help your leather accessories store’s lifestyle appeal.
Impulse is more streamlined and conversion-focused, with customizable product grids and filtering options. It may be better suited for stores with a larger catalog and a more straightforward conversion process.
Performance and Stability:
As you’ve already encountered instability with the two sample versions, make sure the theme is the source of the issues rather than your present configuration or installed programs. Before making a final decision, think about speaking with the Archetype support staff about any issues you may have. The highest priority should be performance.
Investing for the future:
You’re right to be concerned about upcoming improvements. Although Impulse appears to be getting updated more frequently these days, Motion is still a popular and extensively used app. If you would rather use Motion, you can follow its development plan or get in touch with Archetype to find out more about upcoming support and enhancements.
Which theme is more stable and optimized for speed ,conversion, long-term stability, updates, and performance: Impulse or Motion? Neither of these themes includes the “chat” option, which I find unusual. If I purchase one of these themes from an external source( a developer), how can I ensure it will be regularly updated? What key questions should I ask to verify the theme’s stability and legitimacy? I’m using a Dawn theme and my conversion rate is too low, everyone keeps saying I should redesign the store with one of these themes but shopify prices is too high for me, thank you and I look forward hearing from you
As per my suggestion, you can use the recently uploaded theme in the Shopify theme store. Because they have the latest features in them and they are more stable and optimized for speed, conversion, long-term stability, updates, and performance. https://themes.shopify.com/themes?sort_by=most_recent
Shopify’s official themes rarely include built-in chat to avoid bloat. Use apps like Tidio, LiveChat, or Shopify Inbox instead. Ensure the theme supports app integrations seamlessly.
Shopify occasionally offers theme discounts (e.g., Black Friday). You can also explore free themes like Refresh or Crave (modern, lightweight).
Let me know if you need help auditing your Dawn theme for quick conversion wins!
