Which pre-order app are you currently using on Shopify?
I’m looking at a few different options and would be interested in hearing what works well for you, especially around setup, customization, split payments, and pricing.
Hello, @Alex118
Hope you are doing well!
We’ve had the good experience with Timesact Preorder. Setup is straightforward, it offers flexible preorder settings, and supports partial payments on eligible plans.

Hey @Alex118, I think you’ll find the core features across most preorder apps are pretty similar nowadays. All the official ones are built on the same underlying APIs and platform functionalities (Selling Plans and Purchase Options).
Where they differ would be mostly around their pricing model, usage limits, UI (user interface) and depth of their customer support.
I’d recommend trying a few of them and seeing which UI you’re most comfortable with to run preorders that suits your business model and operations.
I previously built and ran Early Bird (an Aussie preorder & split payment/deposit app), happy to answer any specific questions and intro you to the new team!
Hey Alex — one thing that’s easy to overlook when picking a pre-order app: the app matters less than how clearly you set expectations around it. Pre-orders tend to kick off a wave of “when will this ship?” and “why was I charged already?” messages, plus the odd chargeback when the timing isn’t obvious. Whatever you choose, make sure it lets you show the expected dispatch date right on the product page and repeat it in the order confirmation — and if a date slips, email customers before they have to ask. That one habit cuts the pre-order support load more than any feature gap between the apps. On the apps themselves, +1 to testing a couple — since they’re mostly built on the same Selling Plans API, the real deciding factor usually comes down to how cleanly they show those dates and handle the partial-payment charge timing.
If you’re comparing the top pre-order apps, I’d recommend “PreOrder Guru – Back in Stock”
It offers a simple setup with no coding required and provides plenty of customization options, including custom pre-order buttons, badges, messages, product and collection rules, and scheduling.
It also supports split/partial payments, allowing merchants to collect a deposit upfront and the remaining balance later (depending on the selected plan and Shopify payment setup). In addition to pre-orders, it includes back-in-stock notifications, helping recover sales when products are unavailable.
Pricing starts at $5.99/month, making it one of the more affordable options while offering a strong feature set for merchants looking to manage both pre-orders and back-in-stock alerts.
We had better results with preorder setups that were easy to explain to customers in one sentence.
If the app needs a lot of custom education, that’s usually a red flag for us.
Agree. The best preorder setups are still the ones that explain themselves fast, but I’d also say that as a product adds more features, some extra complexity is normal — the goal is to keep it controlled, not user-facing.
