Who is responsible for shipping products from my online store?

Yes sorry Guys !

I have posted here before and I have so many questions, yet the support chat is not accessible. So I am here in community.

My Last question was about finding someone to manage my site and making sure the person could not steal my store. But today I was speaking with someone from fiverr, because the person who created my site is really not working out, and the person I was chatting with asked me what tool I was using to ship the products we find on my store.

Well ! I said, I thought that all this was automatic and that I did not have to do anything. At least that is what the store creator told me.

Like did I get fooled ? Do I have to ship my own products ???

Hi @michelblais ,

First of all, I’m sorry to hear that your relationship with the person you hired to build your store didn’t work out. This is one of the reasons we would normally advise against hiring - and entrusting - someone else with the management of your store. In a similar line of thinking, we would often discourage hiring someone from Fiverr unless you can be sure they’re absolutely reputable and trustworthy.

Do you own your product inventory or are you dropshipping? Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result, the merchant never sees or handles the product.

If you’re dropshipping, then the process is never fully automatic. It still takes your hand at some stage to fulfill an order. For example, if you’re dropshipping using Oberlo then when you see an order in your admin, you will need to first go to your Oberlo app and order it from the supplier.

Once you fulfill the order, you then need to go back to your Shopify admin and click the ‘fulfilled’ button. This will send a notification to the customer saying that their order is on the way.

This video will show you how to fulfill an order.

I’d recommend checking out our excellent course on dropshipping in our Academy. It’s a very good idea to understand how your store works and know what the processes are, regardless of whether someone else is managing it.

You also mentioned that you have had trouble accessing the support chat - I’m sorry to hear that too.

The way the chat works is that you go to Shopify’s support page and click Contact Support. You will be prompted to either log in or continue without a store. Once you have selected an option you will be asked to ask about a topic. Search for your query and relevant help docs will populate __as well as the option to proceed to live chat or email__.

I hope this helps! If you let me know more about your store’s shipping set-up I will be able to help you better.
