Hello. I have had a retail store on Shopify for some years, but I am now taking it to wholesale only – not both, just wholesale. This throws up a tricky question: do I still need Shopify?
I ask this because my customers (retailers) won’t need to check out because they won’t be making payment through Shopify. This is partly because I’ve:
a) been unable to find an app that will distinguish between orders that do and don’t meet free carriage requirements (and will then add shipping costs where relevant),
and
b) returning customers will expect the standard 30 days to pay, so the invoicing part of the process will inevitably have to be something that I manage myself.
This is all fine, but it means the ‘check out’ process will be a bit weird: I need the order to be completed so the info comes to me, and for the customer to be taken to a standard page that thanks them for their order, and explains how they’ll be invoiced at a later date depending on their status: is this doable??
This is also why I ask the question: do I actually need to use Shopify given that my site will no longer be about e-commerce, and will effectively be a glorified online brochure where no money changes hands, but where people still need to be able to place orders and ‘check out’? Could I conceivably build a password protected store elsewhere (eg WordPress), or does Shopify offer some benefits that would be helpful? As well as the existing templates, I can see how saving customer data and being able to apply discounts could be useful, but I’m open to all suggestions…
Thanks in advance!
Sue
