Why adding Google Universal Analytics on Google Tag Manager is wrong?

I have read in the documentation that you should not add the Google Analytics (GA) in Google Tag Manager (GTM). Anyway, my client wants to use GTM to trigger GA events. We have a Shopify Plus plan and we have implemented GA using the standard Shopify configuration.

What is wrong in adding GA on GTM while using GA through the Shopify way? Is it just the risk of duplicating the pageviews? Or is there anything else?
