Why am I getting a 404 error when adding policy links to my website?

Hi there, we followed these instructions from the Help Center to add our Policy links to a Page on our website. We want one page in the Footer, rather than individual links to each policy. We keep getting a 404 Error message when we try to open the links (the individual links on the page, not the link to the Page in the Footer).

Instructions we followed:

Add links to your policies within pages or on social media

You can add direct links to your policies by adding the following to the end of your store’s domain name:

  • Refund policy: /policies/refund-policy
  • Privacy policy: /policies/privacy-policy
  • Terms of service: /policies/terms-of-service
  • Shipping policy: /policies/shipping-policy

For example, if your domain name was johns-apparel.myshopify.com, then a direct link to your shipping policy would be John's Apparel – Opening Soon.

Hi @seamsbetter ,

Have you created those policies?

Lol yep.

Hey, @seamsbetter !

Instead of linking multiple pages on one page, have you thought of creating a FAQ page instead? If you want to simplify the information on your website, a link to a FAQ page in your footer will do this. We have a guide on creating one on this page if you’re interested.

If you would prefer to use the individual policy links, I’m still happy to help you with it. Are you still encountering the issue? Whether you’ve generated the policies or not, they shouldn’t lead to a 404 error page since these pages are pre-existing. If you haven’t generated the policies, each page would still open if you have a link to them on your website, but they would only have the title of the policy and no text underneath it just like the screenshot below.

We’d love to take a look at the pages and find out what’s causing the issue. You’re welcome to share the link to one of the pages here so I can investigate, however, if you prefer to share it privately, you can create a support ticket by visiting https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V and our support team will assist you further.

Hi Summer, thanks so much. We’re definitely still experiencing the issue with those links. We have a FAQs page, but we want that to be separate.

Here’s a link to the Policies page in our footer (which has all the separate links): https://seamsbetter.com/pages/policies

By the way, the support ticket link you shared goes to the general Support page, where I have to log in and go through the whole rigmarole of trying to somehow find a way to talk to a human. I have no idea how to submit a support ticket from there. I had, at one point, figured out how to get to the shopify support chat, but now those same steps aren’t working, and I can never figure out how to start a chat with (or even find the email address for) Shopify support for a quick answer. I really do appreciate your responding here, but there has to be an easier/quicker way to get support than posting in a forum and waiting for a response for a week.

Thank you again for your help!

@seamsbetter My pleasure! I’m glad to hear you already have a FAQ page. We’ll definitely have to get those links sorted then.

Thanks for sharing your website! Since the password-protected page is enabled, I’m unable to view it. Nonetheless, I would suggest creating a support ticket from here instead so we can access your account and get to a solution quicker. When you visit the link to the support page I previously shared, you will see that creating a support ticket is now more straightforward. After logging in and selecting your store, you will be prompted to select the topic of your concern. When you’ve selected the topic, you will be brought to a page with relevant articles and at the bottom of the page, you’ll find our options for support. Here’s a video of how that looks like.

Please let me know if you run into an issue with creating a support ticket and I’ll be happy to help you with it!
