Topic summary
Payment Error 500 occurs when adding PortOne Payments. Shopify indicates this is a known issue affecting stores with default language set to Vietnamese, preventing access to certain payment providers. Developers are working on a fix.
Workaround provided:
- In Shopify admin, open Manage account.
- Set Preferred language to English.
- Activate the third‑party payment gateway (PortOne).
- Optionally revert Preferred language to Vietnamese after setup.
Outcome: The original reporter applied the workaround and confirmed the issue was resolved, marking it as the accepted solution.
Disagreement: Another participant states the problem has persisted for ~6 months. They report that after the 500 admin error, the store goes idle for ~12 hours and daily orders drop from ~50 to ~2, alleging the issue remains unresolved.
Status: Resolved for the original case via the language-change workaround, but broader resolution is pending and disputed until Shopify’s fix is released.
Notes: A screenshot of the 500 error was attached. Error 500 refers to a server-side failure; “third‑party payment gateway” is an external payment provider like PortOne.
