I’m running a shopify store and didn’t added any custom domain, I want to use google console for checking indexing of pages but i got “couldn’t fetch” error for sitemap.xml, tell me best solution or check to overcome this error do i need to connect custom domain first or not. if it’s not necessary then what is the way to solve this issue? I have added it three days and waited but not solved, today again requested but still got same issue.
Is this in Google Search Console? What are you entering? Visit the URL yourself first to make sure it is accurate. Check the forward slash. Chances are that’s what is going wrong.
Try adding: /sitemap.xml/
By including a trailing forward slash it seems to work in many cases.

Hi, I have the same problem, yes I am on GSC and I enter sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml/ and both say couldn’t fetch
If you have the url and are able to navigate to it in your owner browser then you may just need to wait abit for it to be successful.
Do a general internet search for this problem it may not be shopify related.
