Why am I still getting domain error messages after updating DNS settings?

Topic summary

Issue: Domain still shows Shopify connection errors after DNS changes by provider.

Current errors shown:

  • A record not pointing to Shopify (should be 23.227.38.65).
  • Wildcard record (e.g., *.domain.com) pointing to Shopify, which can cause conflicts.

Key details and clarifications:

  • A record maps the root domain to an IP. Shopify requires a single A record pointing to 23.227.38.65.
  • Wildcard DNS records can interfere with domain connection and should be removed or replaced with supported records.
  • DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours after changes.

Latest updates:

  • OP says provider “fixed it,” but there are two A records present.
  • Advice given: keep only one A record (to 23.227.38.65) and delete any additional A records; remove the wildcard record.
  • A Shopify help link was provided for reference.

Status: No confirmation of resolution yet. Action items are to remove duplicate A records, remove the wildcard, and allow for propagation; revisit errors if they persist after 48 hours.

I am trying to connect my domain to my shopify store. I gave my domain provider’s tech support shopify’s requirements and A record path along with the CNAME requirement. They fixed it for me in the DNS. I am still getting the same error messages. Everything looks right on my end. Any idea what it could be?

Error message reads:

Multiple issues with “… .com”

Resolve these domain issues to ensure your Shopify site works for customers.

  • Your domain’s A record doesn’t point to Shopify: Open your domain provider’s DNS settings for …com and set its A record to the IP address 23.227.38.65.
  • Your domain has a wildcard record pointing to Shopify: Wildcard DNS records like *…com can cause connection issues. To follow best practices, we recommend you remove it from your …com DNS settings and replace it with supported dns records

Note: DNS updates can require up to 48 hours to take effect. Learn more about common Domain errors.

The A record ip needs be changed to that of Shopify 23.227.38.65

If your domain provider support are doing the change for you then maybe you just copy the error messages above yo them and they fix it easily for the two issues.

I did that yesterday and they said they fixed it and i looked. It is right. There are two A records. Should there only be one?

Thanks for replying.

You need to have only one A record and should be pointing to Shopify IP. You need to delete the other A record.
