Why am I unable to enable Shopify Payments after changing my default address?

Situation

  • had store with US default address

  • had to change to a Canadian default address

  • prompted to turn off Shopify Payments to complete.

  • i did, and moved default to Canadian Address

now when ever i try to enable Shopify payments - if fails - and tells me “name is already taken”

i have tried to reach CHAT line - the help menus are nothing more than a chase the tail, and never gets me to a chat. HELP

Hi, @perrydchappell !

This is likely due to Shopify Payments accounts being regionally specific so they all are slightly different in the back end due to tax/money laws. Since the account is already technically in action in another region.

There is a straightforward fix for this, however, it needs to be performed by the billing team directly within Shopify. If you contact our support team directly at our help center here, they can route your issue to our billing team once you explain your issue as you have done here. They can then action it such that your account is live again.

.

Rein, thanks. I had to get to chat line (which was painful - as dialogue to get there very circular). Once on Chat, this was solved by the back office team.

Apparently it is a known issue, when primary location is moved from one country to another. It would be helpful to others to move this to FAQ or search-able item.
