We have had a number of customers in the last few days not able to check out orders when using Safari browser, is there a known issue currently please?
Topic summary
Merchants report a recent spike (past few days) in customers being unable to complete checkout, primarily on Safari (Mac) and also on Firefox. Several tests by different users reproduce the issue on Safari.
Key symptoms and errors:
- Checkout blocked with “We were unable to verify that your request originated from Shopify.”
- Frequent “something went wrong” messages.
- Inability to view free professional themes.
- Mentions of cookie-related problems (cookies are browser data used for session verification).
Troubleshooting tried and outcomes:
- Clearing browser cache, rebooting devices, updating Safari, and switching devices were suggested by support but reportedly did not resolve the issue.
- Merchants express frustration and question whether Shopify has offered substantive help or fixes.
Status and open questions:
- No confirmed root cause or official resolution shared in the thread.
- Issue appears ongoing; merchants seek clarification on whether this is a known platform problem and when a fix will be implemented.
We are also experiencing problems with customers using Firefox.
we are also seeing this. customers using Safari on Mac cannot check out. we have had several different people test and find the same results. Shopify support tells us to have our customers clear their browser cache and reboot. this also does not work.

We were unable to verify that your request originated from Shopify.

Lots of messages: “something went wrong”
not an easy start here with Spotify
They have not helped in my opinion. They continue to say we need to ask our customers to try a different device, update their Safari, get a newer computer. I do not consider that any help at all. Perhaps they are so busy adding AI that they aren’t making existing systems work right first.
