Can anyone clarify why my shopify payments would be put on hold!? It says it’s a standard review and every time I follow the steps for ‘contact support’ it says I should receive an email and reply to it, however I have never received an email.
I don’t understand how they can hold my money when I pay their monthly subscription and they get a percentage of every sale!!
This review is normal and happens when you hit a certain amount of generated revenue on your Shopify store. This review is done behind the scenes by Shopify’s banking partner, Stripe. Normally, most payment processors perform this review before they let you start processing any payments at all. Shopify allows you to process payments without a review until you hit that revenue milestone.
Once the review is done, any payments on hold should be deposited into your account. You should also still be able to collect payments. Just make sure that Shopify is not waiting on any documentation from you for the review. If they were, you’d see a notification on the home page in the admin section when logged into the owner account.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having trouble getting in touch with the team regarding your hold. It sounds like the Internal Team has subjected your account to a ‘Standard Review’ - which happens to many merchants and is usually a very quick process to resolve.
If you’ve followed the steps you’ve outlined above, the Internal Team would’ve sent an email to the email address that receives all of your Shopify communications since the creation of your account. If you find that you haven’t received an email, there’s a chance it’s landed in your junk folder. Give your junk mail a check, and let me know if you don’t see any emails in there.
