Why are my weekly email campaigns being stopped due to low open rate?

Topic summary

Shopify halted about half of a merchant’s weekly email campaigns citing “low open rate.” The campaign dashboard shows a 0% open rate, which conflicts with reports from recipients who say they opened the emails. The merchant is frustrated and unable to get support.

Another participant notes that email open rates are now unreliable as a metric (open rate = percent of recipients who open an email) and recommends not relying on them. Suggested approach: turn off open-rate tracking and gauge success via reply rates instead, which may also help deliverability.

Status: No resolution or official guidance from Shopify in the thread. Key uncertainties remain about why the system blocked the sends, whether the 0% measurement is accurate, and how to get direct support to restore sending.

Actionable suggestions from the discussion:

  • Deprioritize open rates; consider reply rates as the primary metric.
  • Consider turning off open tracking to potentially improve deliverability.

I send email campaigns each week and this week shopify stopped 1/2 of them from going out saying “low open rate”. If I look at the open rate it say 0, which I know is not true because several people have opened it that I have talked to. I would love some support which seems impossible these days as I have tried and tried. I am beyond frustrated with not being able to get any support.

Email open rates have become seriously unreliable. I suggest turning it off to improve your deliverability and change your metric to rely on reply rates instead.
