Okay, well when I did have it clicked it would send their automated email without issues, I only recently changed to my own email automation because I wanted to make it more personalised and branded to my business. I am glad that by unchecking it, doesnt change my automated emails haha.
It’s strange because its the email error message even with my own personal email as well which I know isn’t the issue lol.
Topic summary
Core Issue:
Abandoned checkout recovery emails fail to send automatically, generating error messages about customers not accepting marketing or invalid email properties.
Primary Cause Identified:
Shopify’s new abandoned checkout email flow requires customers to be subscribed to marketing emails before automated recovery emails can be sent. The system cannot email non-subscribers, which triggers the error messages users are experiencing.
Key Solutions Discussed:
- Implement an email collection solution that automatically subscribes customers to marketing during checkout
- Verify the automation flow settings for errors or misconfigurations
- Check that the correct email section is used: “Abandoned Checkout” rather than “Abandoned Cart” in the email template (critical distinction)
- Add a condition in the flow to check “Marketing state is equal to subscribed” before sending
Resolution:
One user (PixiePawsPets) resolved their issue by correcting the email template section from “Abandoned Cart” to “Abandoned Checkout.” This fix was confirmed working when test emails successfully delivered.
Status:
The discussion provides actionable solutions, though implementation depends on individual store configurations and customer marketing consent status.
Good Morning,
I wanted to let you know what the error was, I had in the my email the “Abandoned Cart” Section not the “Abandoned Checkout” Section. Shopify Help centre helped find the issue last night. Thank you so much for all your time in helping me to try and resolve the issue. ![]()
Hello! I was searching for solutions for the exact same problem as you, can you tell me please how did you fix it? How can I fix it, I´m desperate. Thank you in advance
Hello, this was awhile ago, however from my memory. When in the edit area of my email I had the incorrect section inputted, for example i had “abandoned cart” rather then the “abandoned checkout” section, theirfor it would cause a error to send the email as the email recipient has an abandoned checkout not abandoned cart. I hope this makes sense for you, ![]()
I can´t find that field in my edit area, do you mean the edit area of the automation or the edit area of the marketing mail?
Thank you so much!
Sorry, I’m not on my computer to be able to attach a photo reference, but it is in the edit area of the email ![]()
