Why aren't my predefined theme styles updating correctly?

Topic summary

Problem: In the Berlin Shopify theme, selecting a predefined style (e.g., “Resonance”) under Theme settings > Theme style did not apply any changes; the theme remained in the default state. Logging out/in did not help. A screenshot was shared but not essential to the outcome.

Possible causes (suggested):

  • Schema error in the theme code (the configuration that defines settings/presets).
  • Missing layouts/presets for the listed styles, so switching styles has no effect.

Recommended actions:

  • Contact the Berlin theme’s developer/studio for support.
  • Alternatively, hire a developer to inspect and fix schema/layout issues.

Outcome/Status:

  • Resolved. The original poster contacted the studio and they “sorted it out.” No technical details of the fix were provided.

Open questions:

  • Exact root cause and specific steps taken to resolve were not disclosed.

Hi, I am trying to customize the Berlin theme that has 5 pre-defined styles and I would like to use Resonance as the default layout style for the next edits. However, when I try to select it (or any other style) in Theme settings > Theme style, nothing changes in the theme design and it stays in the default state:

I tried logging out and in again and it did not help. Any idea what can I do to fix it?

Hello @Matej_R

It may be affecting due to 2 reasons

1: There might me schema error.

2: They haven’t created a layout for any of those.

I suggest try contacting the berlin theme executive, or hire a developer to fix that for you.

Yeah, I got in touch with the studio and we sorted it out, thanks!
