I tried to connect Facebook to my Shopify store but now have an issue with my domain an unable to view my store. It’s says, “This site can’t be reached.” I purchased the domain through GoDaddy. It was once connected not sure what happened. How do I fix this? Please help! Thanks
Topic summary
Main issue: After connecting Facebook, a Shopify store using a GoDaddy domain became unreachable (“This site can’t be reached”).
Key guidance and fixes:
- DNS propagation: Changes to DNS can take 24–48 hours to take effect globally.
- DNS records: Ensure A record points to Shopify’s IP and the CNAME (typically for www) is correct per Shopify’s guide.
- AAAA record: Remove any AAAA record on the root [email removed] as it can block Shopify from issuing an SSL certificate (HTTPS).
Outcome for original poster: Resolved by having the domain host point the A record to Shopify’s IP; connection expected to stabilize after propagation.
New update: Another user reports the site still not loading despite correct A and CNAME while the store is live. Staff requested:
- Confirmation of any recent DNS changes (which would reset the 24–48h window).
- The store URL for testing.
- A check for error messages in Shopify Admin > Settings > Domains.
Status: Partially resolved. Original case is fixed; the follow-up case remains open pending additional details and propagation time.
Hi there,
It looks like it might take 24/48 hours until your domain is properly connected due to DNS services all around the world needing to update. On top of that, make sure any AAAA record towards your [email removed] are empty. This will prevent Shopify from generating a SSL.
Hope this helps!
I had to have my domain host to point the A record to my Shopify IP address. Thanks for your help.
Hi @wandae ,
Thanks for your message. As @ThomKnepper has said, once your domain’s DNS settings have been configured it can take a day or two for these changes to go into effect. You’ll want to make sure your domain’s DNS settings are correctly configured as per our instructions.
It sounds like you have gone ahead and changed your domain’s DNS records, so you should see the domain connect properly before long. If issues persist please let me know!
Hi Victor!
I am currently facing a similar issue where the A record is correct and so is the CNAME. However, my website is not loading and this is very problematic since we are live right now. Thanks!
Hi there, @cjhoffman . Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this older thread with this situation around your domain! My name is Imogen. It’s good to meet you!
Have you recently made any changes to your domain? Such as changing the A Record or CNAME? If so, it can take up to 48 hours for those changes to reflect for your domain, and for your store to load as expected.
As you able to provide us with a link to your store so we can test how it loads for ourselves? Do you see any error messages at all when looking at your domain settings in ‘Settings > Domains’?
