Hi, I am having trouble with my locations. In my locations is my business address that I put in when I set the account up, it is automatically set as default. I can not change this.
the other location is a third party application I installed and the products should be shipped direct from there. But I can’t select it or make it default. There is no button for default. And in the first one there is no deactivate button.
I can not link my products to the third party.
So when you check out as a customer, you can’t change shipping location because the product is only set to my business address.
Can anyone help? Anyone know why I have no default options or option to make the third party the main location for production and shipping?
Or does it need a genius who can code!!!
thanks
Hey, @Kess77 ! Welcome to Shopify Community!
Third-party apps can’t be set as a default location in your admin. The reason for this is that the default address acts as a fallback in the event that no usable address is available as a Shipping From address. An example of this event is when you use a dropshipping app to fulfill products and it does not provide an address. The system uses the default location.
Now, even if your third-party dropshipping app is not your default location, products will still be fulfilled by it as long as the inventory is set to be managed by the app. This can be done by ensuring the app is selected underneath Inventory will be stocked at in the Inventory section of the product:
If you need steps on how to get to that area, you can refer to the guide below.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Products.
- Click the product title of the product you wish to edit.
- Scroll to the Inventory section.
- If the product has variants, go to the Variants section and click any variant to see the Inventory section.
- Select the appropriate app underneath Inventory will be stocked at.
- Click Save.
As long as that is the setup for all the dropshipping products, the app will be able to fulfill them.
How is your business going? Have you launched your website or are you still building it?
Hi Summer
thank you for getting back to me.
Ok the only place I can find a place to select where the inventory is stocked from, is if I go into a product and then into the variant, and then edit, and then there it is already selected for the POD third party fulfilment. there is no inventory box to select as a whole anywhere else. But then it doesn’t work from the locations point of view.
map if I go to the website and buy a product, I go to cart to fill out my details (as a customer) and then in the shipping details it only lets me select the one country, the country that is my business address on the location, but not any other country. So no customer will be able to order.
does this make sense? How can I solve this?
thanks
yes website is not quite live, almost ready to launch, just got to solve this and do a couple of other things. Hopefully goes live this week ![]()
@Summer Been trying all weekend. From the customer point of view they can only select the one country for their shipping details. Which is my business address country, not their own or even the country where the supplier is from. Doesn’t make sense. Please help.
thanks
My pleasure, @Kess77 ! And thank you for the additional context. That just gave me some clarification about the issue you’re encountering!
Since your customers are unable to select other countries at your checkout, the issue doesn’t involve your inventory or locations. This is an issue with your shipping or Shopify Markets settings.
The first thing to check in order to troubleshoot the issue is the shipping zone in your shipping profile. To get there, you can follow the steps below.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
- Click Manage beside your shipping profile.
- Scroll to the Shipping to section to view your shipping zones.
When you get to your shipping zones, you’ll need to check and ensure that the countries you ship to are listed there. If they’re not, you can either add a shipping zone or edit a shipping zone to add the countries to an existing zone.
Now, if the countries you ship to are already in your shipping zones but customers are still unable to select them at the checkout, the issue is likely in the Shopify Markets area in your admin. Besides adding them to the shipping zones in your shipping profile, you need to activate the countries you ship to in the Markets page to enable customers to select those countries at the checkout. You can go through the following steps to do this.
-
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Markets.
-
Observe if any of the countries say Inactive such as in the screenshot below.
-
If they are inactive, click Manage beside each country and click Activate market to activate it.
Feel free to give that a go and test your checkout to see if it fixes the problem. Let me know how it turns out!
By the way, I’m excited to hear you’re about to launch your store! Make sure you refer to our launch checklist as you prepare for the big day to ensure you have a smooth and successful launch. You can access the list here: A 14 Point Ecommerce Checklist To Launch Your Shopify Store.
A new location has appeared as the default called shop location. I cannot change this to my 3rd party app as it’s greyed out.
