Header cannot change whatsapp number with code
Topic summary
Issue: Store owner cannot change the WhatsApp number shown on their storefront header; prior manager hardcoded it, and support indicated it must be updated in the theme code.
Key guidance:
- Edit in Shopify admin: Online Store > Themes > Edit code > header.liquid to locate and replace the hardcoded number.
- If implemented via JavaScript, the reference may be in theme.liquid or related JS included there.
Offers of help:
- Contributors requested the store URL (or email) to inspect the element and provide specific code changes if the number isn’t easily found.
Additional note:
- One reply suggested checking the number registered in the WhatsApp app settings and ensuring the old number is registered before changing—this is less relevant if the number is hardcoded in the theme.
Attachments:
- A screenshot was shared for context; the essential fix remains editing theme files.
Status/outcome:
- No confirmed resolution yet. Action item is to search and update the number in header.liquid/theme.liquid (or JS) or share the URL for targeted assistance.
How to change it? Because it was changed by the previous person. I just took over. Asked customer service and they said it’s in the code.
You can try to find and change it from your Online Store > Themes > Edit code > header.liquid file

Hi @Singgate2024 , Normally if it is code you will find it in file related to that element: header.liquid or file theme.liquid (if code is JS). If you can’t find it, can you send the url so I can search for the element and write code to change it?
Best regards,

If it is code, you can usually find it in the header.liquid or theme.liquid file (if the code is JS) associated with that element. Could you email me the URL if you are unable to locate it so I can look for the element and modify it using code?

Check whether the old phone number you entered is currently registered on your WhatsApp account. You can see what phone number is registered by going to WhatsApp Settings. Then, tap your profile photo. If your old phone number isn’t registered, register it first before you try to change your phone number again.
