Why can't I refund a customer order on my platform?

I do not want to go through with a particular order, and have decided to refund my customer. When i attempt to, it tells me that I “do not have the permissions to make this API call” - can someone please help!!!

I trust I can help you resolve this sooner than later. This issue typically occurs when the payment gateway that was used is PayPal, and the connection to Shopify is not set-up correctly. In fact, this is such a common occurrence that we have it detailed in our common PayPal issues documentation that you can review.

To rectify this error for future orders, simply deactivate and reactivate PayPal from your Admin > Settings > Payments section.

Disclaimer:

Please note since this connection is currently ‘broken’ on your store you will likely be unable to process the refund through your Shopify Admin. To proceed with this particular refund, please head to your PayPal account to process it.
