Why can't I upload a GIF in the description?

Hi all.

Firstly, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

I have a question for you. The thing is, I can’t upload the GIF in the description.

i was able to do that without any issues before but now, I simply can’t do it.

The message shows that the file is corrupted, but it doesn’t matter which GIF I upload, the message is the same everytime.

I would kinf=dly ask you to assist on the matter.

It’s strange that you were able to upload before and not now. Did you add some apps that may cause this?

I would recommend you to try the HTML editor of the description box and see if it works this way?

Thank you posting, I have some information about the error you’ve received.

When this error occurs, it typically means that the image you’re trying to upload has been previously “optimized” with a lossy gif encoder. Our platform works with “lossless” encoding for gif images so this would be directly in conflict for our own optimization. In order for the image to be uploaded, it will need to be “un-optimized”.

To un-optimize the gif image, you could use a local image editor installed on your computer (there are great free options such as G.I.M.P. or Pixir), or an online service like ezgif.com (Please keep in mind that this is an external site not associated with Shopify in any way, and you must be aware that if you use an online service, you will need to agree to their usage policies and what this may imply for the privacy of image data uploaded to their servers. Be sure to read their Terms of Service).

If you choose to use ezgif.com, you can follow these steps:

  • Go to ezgif.com/repair

  • Choose your gif file and click Upload!

  • Click on the small arrows in the Repair Method box and select ImageMagick coalesce (unoptimize)

  • Click Submit!

  • Your OUTPUT IMAGE section will show now with the repaired gif image, just click Save

  • Use the new saved image in your store
