I am getting an error accessing my store I get the message “Safari cannot open the page because it cannot establish a secure connection with the server”
Hey, @Sudsshopsarnia ! Welcome to Shopify Community!
Is the error appearing when you try to access your Shopify admin, or your storefront? If it’s happening when you’re attempting to access your Shopify admin, there’s a high likelihood you’re encountering a local issue. Local issues are triggered by something on your device or your surrounding circumstances and they can be fixed by local troubleshooting. To pinpoint the cause and attempt to fix the error, you can perform local troubleshooting steps. Feel free to go through the steps below, then try to log in after each step to see if any of these resolve the problem.
- Clear the cookies and cache of your browser. After this, completely reboot the browser.
- Try a different web browser, as well as an incognito window or private browsing window to rule out any browser issues. When using incognito, if you are still experiencing the error, confirm you have disabled browser extensions as these can change how the pages look.
- Ensure the web browser is up to date on the latest version.
- Try another device, such as another computer or mobile phone.
- Try another internet connection (switching to a cellular network on a phone rather than wifi, for example).
- Ensure you do not have any firewalls or pop-up blockers enabled on your device as these can interfere.
If you’re encountering the error while trying to access your storefront or your website, you can also go through the troubleshooting above to confirm or rule out the possibility of a local issue. If local troubleshooting doesn’t fix it, I recommend checking your domain as it may be causing the error. Domains are automatically provisioned with security certificates (SSL) when they connect to a Shopify store. The error you’re encountering could be a sign that your domain doesn’t have an SSL. This can happen due to the following possibilities:
- It has not been 48 hours since you connected your domain to your store
- Domains take up to 48 hours to propagate or successfully connect and the SSL may not be provisioned until then
- Your domain does not have the Shopify DNS records:
- A record:
23.227.38.65 - CNAME record:
shops.myshopify.com - Your domain has to have these in order to be successfully connected and be fully functional. You may contact your domain provider for assistance with editing your DNS settings or you may refer to this guide to edit your Shopify domain’s DNS settings.
