Why did my website speed drop and how can I improve it?

Hi Everyone, my website is: [www.toyscardsnbikes.com](https://toyscardsnbikes.com/)
I need better performance and faster load times?

Do any of you know why my site may be slow?
My Speed Score on Shopify is a 36.
On Average my Mobile Score is a 40.
On Average My Desktop Score is a 80 + [Much Better].

Would like Mobile and Desktop to be over 90.

It may be from previous apps I added then decided
to get rid of -- but how can i check in the code which ones are not being used?

Other details

  • Goal: Boost website speed
  • Location: Canada

Thanks community!

I’ll check out the links! Thanks!

The problem is I am a newbie … so “Removed unused codes” …

I have ZERO idea what code is being used vs unused …

Is it worth hiring someone out?

Hi @toyscardsnbikes ,

The only way to remove residual code from uninstalled apps is to contact the app providers. Therefore, I suggest you reach out to them and ask for assistance in removing residual code.

Other than app code, there’re still many factors affecting your website speed:

Factors you can’t control

  • Your customer’s device, network, and location

  • Shopify infrastructure

  • Content delivery network (CDN)

  • Local browser cache

  • Server-side page cache

  • The assets inside the content_for_header Liquid tag

Factors you can control

  • Themes

Themes are made up of Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. When you edit or customize themes, file sizes can increase and affect your store speed.

  • Complex or inefficient Liquid code

You can edit almost all of the Liquid that is used to render your store. There are efficient and inefficient ways of writing Liquid code. Doing complex operations repeatedly can increase your Liquid render time, which impacts your overall store speed.

  • Images and videos

High-resolution images usually require large files and therefore slow down page loading times.

  • Fonts

If you use a font that does not yet exist on your customer’s computer, then the font has to be downloaded before your text can be displayed.

I suggest you try AVADA SEO Suite which has great features that can help you with improving site speed such as Image Optimization, Speed Up, Lazy Loading, and Minification (removes unnecessary information from the source code**)**.

I hope my answer can help you achieve your goals.

Hi @toyscardsnbikes ,

We have checked your store speed, and we find that the performance of the store has significantly dropped due to the following issues:

  1. Remove Unused javascript [especially jquery files that are added 4 times unnecessarily]
  1. Third-party code can significantly impact page load performance, hence, remove the unused ones.

  2. Limit the number of redundant third-party providers and try to load third-party code after your page has primarily finished loading

  3. Need to apply lazyloading techniques for 3rd party scripts like google tag manager, Facebook, etc.

  4. You can render required-size images by using liquid code.
