Hi @Jakub4
You can view your billing details in the store admin under Settings.
Hi @Jakub4 ,
It’s Kate here from PageFly, a Shopify Landing Page Builder app. I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve encountered while trying to deactivate your Shopify subscription.
When you sign up for Shopify, you receive a 14-day free trial to explore the platform. If you don’t select a subscription plan and deactivate your store before the trial ends, Shopify automatically transitions your account to a paid plan, resulting in a subscription fee. This is likely why you were billed $18.
Here is how you can deactivate your store with unpaid invoices:
Shopify requires all outstanding invoices to be settled before you can deactivate your store. This policy ensures that any services or features used during your time on the platform are appropriately billed. If there’s an unpaid invoice, you’ll need to pay it to proceed with deactivation.
Steps to Deactivate Your Store:
-
Settle Outstanding Invoices:
- Log in to your Shopify admin panel.
- Navigate to Settings > Billing.
- Review and pay any outstanding invoices.
-
Deactivate Your Store:
- After settling all invoices, go to Settings > Plan.
- Click on Deactivate store.
- Follow the prompts to confirm deactivation.
If you’re unable to pay the outstanding balance or believe there has been a billing error, it’s best to contact Shopify Support directly. They can provide personalized assistance and discuss potential solutions.
To avoid unexpected charges in the future, ensure you deactivate your store before the end of any trial period or billing cycle. Regularly monitor your billing statements and account status to stay informed.
I hope this clarifies the situation and assists you in resolving the issue. If you have further questions or need additional help, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Cheers! Kate | PageFly Team
Hi @Jakub4
I totally get how frustrating this must be. Let me help clarify why this happened and what you can do.
When you sign up for a Shopify plan and activate it, Shopify starts billing you based on the subscription plan you chose (even if you don’t launch your store). Here’s what likely happened:
1-Billing Cycle Triggered: Once you chose a paid plan, Shopify initiated your billing cycle. Even if you didn’t end up fully setting up your store, the subscription fee still applies unless the account is deactivated before the billing date.
2-Unpaid Invoice: If you tried to deactivate your account but had an unpaid balance (e.g., $18), Shopify won’t let you close it until that amount is paid. This is because Shopify charges for access to the platform, even if the store isn’t active or live.
3-What You Can Do:
- Pay the Outstanding Balance: Unfortunately, you’ll need to pay the $18 to close the account. After that, you can deactivate the store to stop any future charges.
- Contact Shopify Support: If you believe this charge was made in error, explain the situation to their support team. They’re usually very understanding and might help, especially if you didn’t fully use the platform.
Here’s how you can reach Shopify Support:
- Log into your Shopify account.
- Go to Settings > Billing to see your charges.
- Use Shopify’s Help Center to open a support ticket or chat with them directly.
For now, if you still want to deactivate your store, here’s a quick step-by-step:
- Go to your Shopify Admin.
- Navigate to Settings > Plan.
- Click Deactivate store (if there’s no outstanding balance).
- If it still doesn’t work, pay the $18 first under Billing.
If you need further help with the process or contacting Shopify, just reply here, and I’ll do my best to guide you through it.
Best regards,
Daisy
