Why do I get a 404 when I click on the Domains link in my development store?

Does anyone here experience something similar?

Hi, @Nick9 . Have you tested this out using any other devices or browsers? If not, please try that to see if it is doing the same thing or working correctly. If it’s still not working I recommend reaching out to our support team through your Partner dashboard for more help so we can troubleshoot this with you in more detail.

Hi Erin, ok I’ve tried other browsers and I get the same error. The URL follows the pattern: https://admin.shopify.com/store/my-store-name/settings/domains

Hi @Nick9 ,

A 404 error when clicking on the Domains link in your development Shopify store could be caused by a few different issues:

  1. URL Issues: The link might be pointing to a page that doesn’t exist or has been moved. Ensure that the URL is correct and that the Domains section is accessible in your Shopify development store.

  2. Permissions: As a development store, there might be restrictions or limited features compared to a fully paid Shopify store. Check if the Domains section is available in the development store settings or if there are specific permissions required.

  3. Store Status: Sometimes, development stores have limited functionality or incomplete setup. Verify that your development store is properly configured and that all required settings are in place.

  4. Browser Cache: Clear your browser cache or try accessing the link in a different browser or in incognito mode to rule out any caching issues.

  5. Shopify Updates: Occasionally, Shopify might update their platform, which can affect certain features temporarily. Check Shopify’s status page or forums to see if there are any ongoing issues or updates affecting your store.

If none of these solutions resolve the issue, contacting Shopify support (chat) would be a good next step. They can provide specific guidance and troubleshoot the issue with you.

Hi Yvonne, thanks for the tips. It may be due to the site still being in development, but there should probably be a message saying there’s no permissions or the section is only available on live sites rather than just a 404 when I click on the link.

Hi Nick, I completely agree with you. It would be helpful if it didn’t show a 404 error while still in development and show the right reason why the domain’s page is not yet accessible, as this could prevent confusion for users.

I have the same problem with one store. My other stores work fine, only this specific one doesn’t work.

Got a feedback from a Shopify guy:

this specific store populated test data in the store and it is Non-transferable so it can not be live or take paid plan or add domain> > any other development store can be able to add domain

Sounds like it is because this has Shopify test data, so they assume it is for internal demo purposes only and has some limitations.

I created another store and it works fine.
