Why do packing slips print 2 pages (Fulfilled & Unfulfilled)

Topic summary

Issue: Packing slips are printing on two separate pages for fulfilled and unfulfilled items, including already-fulfilled line items.

  • Original concern: OP questions why packing slips print for previously fulfilled items when Shopify Help states packing slips are for use “when you fulfill orders.” Suggests either a setting to exclude fulfilled items or a single-page layout that clearly separates fulfilled vs. unfulfilled.
  • Impact: Extra, unnecessary pages (e.g., for items like Route shipping insurance that must be manually fulfilled) create confusion and waste.
  • Attempted resolution: Another participant contacted Shopify Support. Response: there’s no built-in setting to exclude fulfilled items from packing slips or to merge views; changes would require custom code in the packing slip template.
  • Evidence: Screenshot of support chat provided (attachment central to confirming Shopify’s stance).

Current status: No native solution. Workaround requires custom coding of the packing slip template. Unresolved for users without coding ability; no official feature toggle available.

Packing slips print fulfilled and unfulfilled items on 2 seperate pages. This hurts my head.

  1. Why on earth are packing slips for fulfilled items being printed?
The Packing Slip page on Shopify Help Centre states: “Packing slips can be useful when packing items to ensure that all products are included in the package and they help to communicate what has been sent to the customer. You can print packing slips when you fulfill orders.”. Ergo, previously fulfilled items don’t need packing slips as they’ve been… packed.
  2. Can we not have a setting somewhere to tell Packing Slips not to print fulfilled items. Or, the ability to print both on one page whereby they’re easily identifiable.

Did you ever get this figured out? I’m having the same issue where I am going through to fulfill route insurance (since you can’t automatically fulfill it) and I’m still getting the dang page for it when printing the packing slip. I don’t need to print packing slips for items that are fulfilled and it’s annoying.

Yeah I reached out to support and nothing can be done unless you can code it yourself (which I can’t). Here is the snippet of the convo and what they said. If you figure out the code to change this, please let me know :slightly_smiling_face:
