Hi there, just wondering why would a Shopify merchant want to spend money hiring back-end store development support or working with a partner when Shopify seems to make it relatively easy to do it yourself (at least for basic plan holders). If this isn’t the case could someone please let me know ![]()
Hello @kallista
Good question! Shopify itself is relatively easy to use. However, you may want more customization to your store. For example, a custom design, custom functionalities which can not be served with a theme or any app on the market. In this case, you can work with a Shopify partner/developer to edit the theme, build a custom theme, or even a custom app for your store.
However, most of the time you may not need to do that and can build a good store yourself.
Hello,
Great question! While Shopify indeed makes it easy to set up and manage an online store, there are several reasons why a merchant might want to invest in back-end development support or partner with a Shopify expert:
-
Customization: While Shopify’s basic plans come with many features, you may have unique needs that require custom coding or third-party apps. An experienced developer can help tailor your store to meet these specific needs.
-
Complex Integrations: If your store requires integrations with external systems (like ERP, CRM), a developer’s expertise can make sure that these systems communicate smoothly with your Shopify store.
-
Efficiency: If you’re not tech-savvy, tasks like theme customization and setting up complex shipping rules can take up a lot of your time. A developer or a partner can handle these tasks more efficiently, freeing you up to focus on other aspects of your business.
-
Scalability: As your business grows, you might face new challenges in terms of managing logistics, inventory, orders, etc. Working with a developer or an agency can help ensure your store can scale smoothly without performance issues.
The goal is to invest in resources that can help you maximize the potential of your Shopify store. It’s about balancing what you can do well yourself with where professional help could make a significant difference.
when I first opened my Shopify Store, I felt comfortable with writing product descriptions and taking product pictures, but made numerous mistakes in the store setup and logistics. Partnering with experts not only saved me time but was also an incredible learning experience. The beauty of Shopify is that even if you start with a partner, you’re not tied to them for the long haul like you might be with other platforms like WooCommerce or Magento.
Awesome. That is super helpful thank you ![]()
