Issue: An “unknown error” appears when completing Shopify Payments setup. Despite this, checkout displays Shopify payment options. In admin, a bank account is listed but the “Complete setup” prompt remains. Screenshots show checkout methods visible and the payments settings page with bank details plus the incomplete setup state.
Key clarification: Customers may reach the first checkout page, but without fully completing Shopify Payments, they won’t be able to pay at the final step. Completing setup is necessary to avoid order and payout disruptions.
Requested info: Provide the exact error message and a screenshot of the error during setup to aid troubleshooting.
Suggested troubleshooting:
Use an incognito/private browsing window.
Clear browser cookies and cache.
Try a different browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
Attempt setup on another device (mobile/tablet).
Status: Unresolved/ongoing. Awaiting the user’s error details and results after trying the browser/device troubleshooting steps.
Are you running into a specific error message when attempting to finish setting up your Shopify Payments account? If so, it’ll help if you can share a screenshot of the errors that you’re seeing on your end, so that we can help further troubleshoot the situation.
While customers may be able to navigate to the first page of checkout, if your Shopify Payments account hasn’t been fully setup they won’t be able to successfully pay for their order in the last stage of checkout. So I encourage you to finish completing the set up of your Shopify Payments account as soon as possible, to prevent any disruptions to your store orders or payouts.
In the meantime, to ensure that the errors you’re encountering aren’t related to a potential browser caching issue, you can follow the steps below when attempting to complete your Shopify Payments set up:
Try to login to your Shopify admin via an incognito window to complete your set up.
