Why does every product URL on my site have a '?variant=' attached?

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with all the products on my site.

Indeed, on each product, even those which do not contain options (variants), there is the mention “?variant=…” which is added to my URL.

I know this is normal when I have pre-selected variants, but it also affects all my products that do not have variants! Example here : https://jitensha-tokyo-paris.myshopify.com/collections/accessoires/products/basil-front-carrier-matte-black?variant=40239165800545

Do you know where this can come from?

Thanks in advance to all!

Best regards,

Max COSTA

Hi @MaxCosta ,
In Shopify whether you have multiple options or not but one thing that you have is a default variant for the product. If you add a product to your store that does not have any variant still that product will have a default variant, because in Shopify its the variant id of the product that is utilized to add a product to the cart rather than using any product properties.
Thanks

I understand, but how do you explain that on the current client site we only have the root URL without the variant ID? Example: https://jitensha.fr/products/basil-front-carrier-silver

And on all my other Shopify sites, I don’t have that after the URL on my products…

Maybe that’s because you have not added canonical tag to your website
