Why does my Shopify Payments account get paused without warning, and any good mitigation workflows?

I’ve seen a few merchants suddenly have their Shopify Payments account paused or under review, with no warning. When it happens, payouts freeze, cash flow stalls, and it can throw your entire operation off balance, especially if you rely on those funds for inventory or ad spend.

I know Shopify usually does this for risk checks or compliance reviews, but the timing often feels unpredictable.

Three questions I want to ask: Have you also experienced a Shopify Payments pause before? If yes, what triggered it? And, most importantly, have you built any mitigation workflows like backup payment processors, separate accounts, or cash flow buffers to protect yourself?
