We are having an issue with our store. When we go in to manually change the quantity of an item and hit save it sometimes randomly saves a different quantity. This also has happened a few times when updating a price. The quantity number seems to be chosen at random where the price seems to revert back to the price it was before we changed it.
Topic summary
Inventory quantities (and occasionally prices) change after manual edits, sometimes saving as different numbers or reverting to previous values. Several users report that changes appear to save but later undo, causing overselling and unfulfilled orders.
Scope and where it happens:
- For some, the issue occurs directly in Shopify’s admin when saving product quantities or prices.
- Others see it on connected channels (e.g., Amazon) where quantities default to incorrect values.
Conflicting explanations and logs:
- One report says Amazon attributes changes to a third-party integration (external software that syncs inventory/prices across platforms).
- Shopify support reportedly cannot see related activity in the stock adjustment history and suggests user oversight; the history log is limited to 90 days, hindering diagnosis.
Additional symptoms:
- Old, sold-out products unexpectedly show non-zero stock without recent edits.
- Multi-location stores face significant operational burden rechecking inventory.
Status and open questions:
- No confirmed cause or resolution. Suspicions include third-party syncs versus a Shopify-side glitch. Key unmet needs: identifying the source of changes, preventing auto-updates, and expanding/using logs to trace edits.
Is this happening in your Shopify account and/or an another shopping channel, ex: amazon?
Its happening right from our Shopify account page.
We are having the same issue, but the quantities are changing in our amazon store. I update/change quantities multiple times a day because they keep defaulting to numbers that aren’t even correct.
Same here, im changing the quantities but although they appear to have saved, upon a checking later, they havent, its costing me loads in unfulfilled orders, and i have to keep rechecking the quantities on the shop floor which takes forever on several styles and sizes of shoes, clothes

This is happening in with our Amazon inventory. Amazon says it’s not them and it’s a 3rd party software.
We have a similar issue. Shopify does random updates on products, often old and sold out in quantities, and all of a sudden there are quantities of products that we don’t have anymore. Contacted Shopify, and according to them we have just forgotten that these quantities are there as they can’t see any activity in the adjustment history (which also is ridiculously short 90 days).
Knowing our stock throughout, I know it’s not us, but the system glitching somehow. Any ideas how we could stop Shopify updating stock that doesn’t need updating, or is this one of those things we are in their mercy once again? With 4 locations we simply cannot be doing inventory takes and updating stock manually all the time.
