Why does my updated main menu revert back to the old one?

Topic summary

Main issue: After updating the main menu (navigation), the storefront briefly shows the change then reverts to the old menu.

Access constraints: The shop is password-protected and the password form was removed, preventing others from viewing or testing. A password (“mybb18”) was provided, but the password field is still missing; an image was shared showing the absent form.

Context: Store uses the Debut theme (a Shopify theme). Further details requested: whether theme code was edited, recent app installs, and when the issue began.

Troubleshooting steps suggested:

  • Roll back theme code to an earlier date to check if a recent change caused the menu issue (i.e., revert to a previous version).
  • Preview the store using a fresh theme and update navigation there to see if changes persist.
  • Use Shopify’s complimentary design support (up to 60 minutes on Basic+ plans) or contact Support to investigate.

Status: Unresolved. Next actions include re-enabling the password field or sharing backend access, then testing whether theme code changes are causing the menu to revert.

Hi! I updated my main menu, but it won’t change on the actual site. When I refresh the page it shows what I changed it to but then within a second changes back to the old one. Any ideas on how to keep it as what I changed it to?

Hi - Can you share the URL of your shop?

Mark

Hi, @ligumafrica .

Thank you for reaching out and posting to the Shopify Community!

I understand that you’ve updated your main menu navigation however, the new updates are not populating to your storefront.

As @MOISCHKOWITZ has mentioned, sharing your store URL will allow us to further investigate and troubleshoot.

Could you provide information on the following:

  • What theme are you using?
  • Have you edited your theme code?
  • Have any apps been recently installed?
  • A timeframe of when the issue started

Looking forward to hearing back!

Hi your shop is hidden and can only be accessed with a password - you did not provide the password and you removed the password form from the page.

As much as I want to help this way it is kind of hard to tell what the reason for you problem might be :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, sorry I didn’t realise. The password should be mybb18. Please let me know if this works.

This is how it look like: The form field for the password is still missing. Maybe you should invite me to you store backend. I am sure I can fix this right away.

Thanks for you reply, @ligumafrica .

I’m unable view your website due to the password field not being enabled.

Could you try these theme troubleshooting methods in the meantime:

  • Rolling back your theme code to an older date stamp to see if it’s a code issue that is affecting your main menu navigation from updating. Our resource editing theme code includes the step-by-step process.
  • Try previewing your store in a fresh Shopify theme and updating the navigation to see if the changes reflect. You can download a free theme from the Shopify Theme Store. Full instructions are included in our adding, previewing and buying themes resource.
  • Lastly, if you’re on the Shopify Basic Plan or higher, then you can use up to 60 minutes of complimentary design support, or design time, which is tracked in 15-minute increments. This time can be used to work on supported customizations for your theme. You can check out our Theme Support resource for more information, or contact Shopify Support so we can take a closer look at your theme.
