Why does Shopify still say my identity is unverified?

Topic summary

Main issue: A merchant completed identity verification but their Shopify admin still shows “identity unverified.” A screenshot was shared (not essential to follow the thread).

Status and steps: Support asked the merchant to click the yellow “Submit details” button and noted reviews take a few business days. If accepted, the banner is removed. For address verification, alternatives suggested were a bank statement or phone bill showing the address; if unavailable, contact Shopify Support for other options.

Billing location: To view monthly bills, go to Settings > Billing > Recent bills.

Product strategy discussion: The merchant sells household “life-hack” gadgets (e.g., spoon-scale, night lamp with wireless charger) and asked whether to focus on similar or varied products. Guidance given:

  • A focused catalog can be easier to design and market to a specific target.
  • A wider range can work if backed by a strong brand to drive customer retention.

Outcome: No confirmation that verification is resolved; next actions are to ensure details are submitted, wait for review, use alternative address documents, or contact Support. Discussion remains open.

To Saintman:

Good evening,

could I ask you to verify my identity, please? I have already completed the verification of my identity, but Shopify still tells me that my identity is unverified.

Thank you.

Hi, @Maxmilian .

Thank you for reaching out. I’m sorry you are having difficulties submitting your ID.

Have you clicked the yellow button that says submit details? This is where you would enter the information needed to confirm your identity. It will take our team a few business days to review the document you sent in and then, if accepted. The banner will be removed from your admin.

Please let me know if you have any further questions! I would love to learn more about your business. What type of products do you sell?

Talk soon,

Good evening,

I sell products or rather gadgets, such as a neck massager or a mobile phone holder that can be attached to a computer thanks to a magnet and other pink products. I only have four products so far.

And with this I would like to ask you one question: Is it better to sell similar products of one specific product or is it rather better to sell different products?

Thank you.
Have a nice evening.

Good evening,

where can I find the Utilities bill please?

Thank you and have a nice evening

Hi, @Maxmilian !

Thank you for your reply and for sharing your business and products.

That is a great question! It is hard to answer as we have successful businesses on Shopify that do both. I think having one site with similar products is the best option as it is easier to design and advertise your site with a target market in mind.

You will find your monthly bill in your admin by going to settings > billing > recent bills.

Please let me know if you have any further questions! I also wanted to share this great checklist to review before launching your online store to ensure you are ready.

Talk care!

Hi Emily,

basically, my target market is about selling people various household gadgets that can make things easier and save them a lot of work and effort.
That’s why I include products on my market, such as a spoon that is also a scale, or a night lamp that lights up and also has a wireless mobile phone charger in it.
In short, my goal is to make people’s “life” easier thanks to my products. Therefore, my products are not similar, but each product solves a different problem. And besides, I can’t even change it anymore because my domain and company name is “houseofmodernlifehacks”, which already describes the products I sell at my store.

Have a nice day.

I would like to ask one more question. At verification, he wants me to upload a sort of electricity bill. The problem is, I don’t have any such document because I don’t live alone, I still live with my parents. Is there anything else you can upload to verify my address?

Thank you.

Have a nice rest of the day.

Hi, @Maxmilian .

You can usually use a bank statement or a phone bill that shows your address. If not, it would be best to contact our Support Team, as they can access your information and find alternative options for you.

Take care,
