Specifically, when I attempt to add items to the cart, no action is performed. It is only upon refreshing the page that the cart items become visible.

Did you try to use another browser and check?
Could you drop your store link here so I can check it on my side for you?
May be your theme or product page have script issue, therefore reflection comes only after refreshing the page.
Request you to share your product URL to check.
