PayPal is a payment method we have, but for some reason when the country is switched to Indonesia, it does not appear? It appears for United States, Netherlands and Canada, but not for Indonesia. Screenshot below.
Topic summary
PayPal disappears as a checkout option when the shipping/billing country is set to Indonesia, though it shows for the United States, Netherlands, and Canada. A screenshot was provided to illustrate the missing option.
A contributor explains this is because PayPal does not support Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), citing PayPal’s supported currencies list. As a result, PayPal won’t be offered at checkout for Indonesia when the store/currency is IDR.
Another merchant asks if enabling PayPal means no one in Indonesia can purchase via PayPal. The implication is that PayPal won’t be available for Indonesian customers transacting in IDR, but the thread does not confirm whether currency workarounds (e.g., switching to a supported currency) would enable PayPal.
Status: Open. No confirmed workaround or official documentation linked in-thread beyond the claim about currency support. Key next step would be to verify PayPal’s current currency support and consider alternatives or a supported currency setup.
Hey ssdc.co Shopify Expert here. This is because PayPal doesnt support IDR as a currency, you can read this on the PayPal supported currencies page. That’s also why Indonesians never use PayPal. If you need any help selling internationally / setup please let me know.
