I paid for a domain and it hasn’t shown up under domains yet. I read that it must mean that someone else owns the domain. I checked my credit card and I did pay for it so I don’t know what to do about this. Please help. Thank you.

For context, this situation can occur when the domain you purchased was previously connected to another Shopify store, but the store has since closed and their domain registration has lapsed. So when the same domain was purchased by you, it may not be automatically connected to your store due to it recognizing the old store within the system.
Can I get you to try the following steps please, to see if we can get you to connect your domain manually from your Shopify admin?
- Navigate to Settings > Domains.
- Click the Connect an existing domain button.
- Enter your domain name, then click Next.
- Click Connect, and then click Close.
If after following the above instructions you’re still unable to connect your domain to your store however, please contact our live support team so that we can locate the domain from our end and detach it from any other store it may be attaching itself to.

Once your domain is successfully connected to your store, it’s also a good idea to set up a custom domain email address. This will allow your business to appear more professional, which will then strengthen trust with prospective customers. While Shopify doesn’t currently offer email hosting natively on our platform, if you’re just starting out, a popular choice to help with setting up your custom email address is Zoho Mail. Otherwise, Google Workspace is also a commonly used provider for hosting your custom email.
