Why is a non-existent discount code giving 10% off on abandoned carts?

I was looking at my recent abandoned cart orders, and I saw one with an applied a discount code that does not exist in my store and it looks like they were going to get 10% off with it. I then went to my website and tried this code and I also was able to get 10% off. Why is this random coupon code that is not in my store working to discount 10%? How do I disable a coupon code that is NOT in my list of discount codes?

Are you by any chance using any 3rd party discount Apps?

Hi, @Christina4 !

Thanks for reaching out in our Community forums and for sharing your concern, I’d be happy to help.

I appreciate you flagging this with our team. If the discount code that you mentioned is not in both ‘Discount Codes’ and ‘Automatic Discounts’ sections under the Discount tab of your admin, then it seems like this code is being generated by a third party. May I ask if you’ve downloaded discount code apps in the past? For example, an app like Bulk Discount Code Generator. I suggest double-checking on this by going into your Apps.

If the issue still persists, we’ll need to access your account in order to gather more information about the issue. We’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit our Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request.

Thank you, I started a help request. I have the Loox app which creates coupon codes that are long and contain the term “loox” in them. This code was short and is not in my list.

Hi again, @Christina4 !

Thank you very much for the update!

I’m glad to hear that our support team is taking a look. Perhaps the third party app could be in play here, as the coupon code could have been automatically created. However, feel free to continue updating this thread as you will be helping others in the community who may be experiencing a similar issue.

Thanks again!

In case anyone has a similar problem, support was able to find the code created by a third party app that I had forgotten about because it is rarely used. The code was created back in May, and was kind of hiding. It was one of 56 codes that could only be seen if I clicked on the single general code that was listed in my discount code list. Example: Under the “Discounts” section, in my list was one discount listed as “APPDISCOUTNS” for the app, and under the “method” column is said “56 codes”. You had to click on the APPDISCOUNTS to open in up and see all the other discounts created by that app. Hope that helps if anyone runs into something similar.

Hi, @Christina4 !

I appreciate you for taking the time to provide that additional update. I have marked your response as an accepted solution as you outlined that you were able to find the third party app’s code in your theme file.

Thanks for being an awesome member in the community, and all the best!
