I was just checking the logged-in devices for my Shopify account on account security and noticed an unknown login from Council Bluffs, Iowa, showing as a Safari Mac OS. I immediately logged it out because I didn’t recognize the device or location. Has anyone experienced something similar? What could be the cause?
Hi,
This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.
It’s concerning to see an unauthorized login attempt on your Shopify account from a location you don’t recognize. While it’s possible that a friend or family member might have accessed your account from a different device, it’s also a good idea to investigate further to rule out any potential security threats.
Possible Causes:1. Shared Network: If you’ve used your Shopify account on a public network (like a café or library), it’s possible that someone else on the same network might have intercepted your login credentials.
- Phishing Attack: You might have been the target of a phishing scam. Phishing attacks often involve emails or messages that trick users into providing their login information on fake websites.
- Compromised Device: If you’ve used your Shopify account on a device that has been infected with malware, it’s possible that your login credentials were stolen.
Steps to Take:1. Change Your Password Immediately: This is the most important step to prevent further unauthorized access. Choose a strong password that is difficult to guess.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication: This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a code from your phone or another device to log in.
- Review Your Account Activity: Check your account activity log for any suspicious actions, such as changes to your contact information or orders.
- Scan Your Devices for Malware: Use reputable antivirus software to scan all devices you use to access your Shopify account.
- Contact Shopify Support: If you suspect a serious security breach, reach out to Shopify’s support team for assistance.
Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.
Best regards,

If you’re seeing visits from Council Bluffs in your Shopify analytics (likely from Shopify’s speed testing using Google Developer tools), here’s how to exclude them:
- Go to the Analytics menu in Shopify, and you will see the dashboard with your reports.
- Select any report that includes visits (e.g., Sessions over time, Sessions by location).
- Apply a filter: Set Session City to “is not” Council Bluffs.
- Save the report with a new name (e.g., “Sessions over time (No Council Bluffs)”).
- Replace the original report on the dashboard with the new filtered version to view accurate data.
Repeat this for all relevant reports, such as sessions, conversions, or landing pages. Leave sales-related reports unchanged. Your dashboard will now display only real-user sessions without the Council Bluffs data.
Hi @Anya3
I’ve been experiencing the same issue, and it’s quite frustrating. Shopify keeps saying they have no control over it, which honestly feels a bit strange. The new analytics update they introduced is supposed to be an upgrade, but it’s coming with major issues—particularly with the bot traffic that’s skewing my dashboard analytics.
One of the most concerning parts is the “sessions by location” report. I’ve seen anywhere from 80 to 160 sessions per day, but when I dig into the data, I find that my real visits are more like 5 to 10 (including my own). It’s really disheartening, especially after investing in SEO efforts to drive genuine traffic, only to end up with a large chunk of bot traffic messing up my results.
I understand that Shopify considers this an update, but the inability to control, fix, or even schedule these test issues leaves me feeling frustrated. It’s difficult to measure the real impact of my work when the analytics are inaccurate, and I’m being told the best they can do is report this feedback to the developers.
How can we do this step: 5. Replace the original report on the dashboard with the new filtered version to view accurate data?
Thank you
