Why is Google displaying the incorrect meta description for my webpage?

Dear all,

Our webshop is online for more than a week now, till this point everything works fine accept for one thing.

The problem is that Google is showing the wrong metadescription of our page. I think I know were the problem comes from, but I have no idea how to solve this, maybe you guys can help me. Let me explain the situation.

A while ago we got the domainname tuinverlichtingmeesters.nl through a 3rd party. We started making a webshop in Wordpress and while working on it there was a offline plugin active which said that we were working on the page and it would go live in the near future. Along the way we got introduced with Shopify. So we stopped working on the Wordpress site and started making a Shopify store.

Ofcourse we wanted to use our own domain, so we linked our 3rd party domain to our Shopify webshop. Our domain is directly forwarded to our Shopify store now. So far so good. In Shopify we filled in our Meta description in the right section. Google had already crawled our website several times, but when I search for my website on Google, it keeps showing the offline metadescription of our initial site that we were building on.

I can’t change the metadescription in the initial domain anymore as the wordpress site is deleted there. But apparently Google is still showing that wrong description instead of our right one that we filled in in Shopify. I already contacted my domainprovider, they tell me they can’t help me and I should contact Shopify.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

Have you resubmitted the new sitemap to Google search console? This will inform Google about your new site structure and content.

After your resubmission, you have to wait for Google to reindex the new pages. To (slightly) expedite the reindexing process, you can also submit individual URLS under inspect URL and click on request indexing.

This will take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on Google’s resources. After your resubmission, you can only wait till it’s updated on Google’s side.

This is PageFly - Free Landing Page Builder. I would love to provide my recommendations for your store.

Regard your concern about Google is showing the wrong metadescription data.

The issue might come from that your site hasn’t updated the data from Google. Maybe crawled before you type the meta description in. So the solution here is to request index to Google again, and wait for Google update the content of the meta. Also when you request Google to index your page again that can update any changes you were made too.

Hope this can help

Best regards,
