Why is GTIN required for Google Shopping not sent from Shopify?

I have products showing the error that the GTIN is required for Google Shopping

However the barcode field is already filled in:

I’ve confirmed that the data isn’t being sent to Google Merchant Center either:

Has Shopify stopped sending this barcode field to Google for the GTIN? It seems to only affect my new products and not my old ones?

If you are using the free Google shopping app built by Shopify, then this app is bugged. It has a lot of issues plaguing users for 6+ months.

There are two solutions

  1. Use a supplement feed, to add the missing barcodes in Google Merchant Center: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7439058?hl=en

  2. Use a different app that does not have these bugs, for example I like to use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds

That seems to defeat the point doesn’t it? Surely it’s a fairly easy fix for a dev?

I would say so yes, however as it has been 6+ months, I don’t think they will fix it any time soon. For a year now, the free google shopping app, does not seem to be on Shopify’s priority list. Otherwise it would have been fixed by now.

I encourage you if have the time is to contact Shopify and ask them to fix the issue.

For anyone else that has this issue.

You need to go to the Google sales channel on the left nav. Then go to “manage availability”.

You then need to populate the “custom product” field.

If your product has a barcode/gtin then set the field to “false”

This then pushes the barcode field to Google Merchant center.

And if you refresh the manage availability page, are your values false still false? Or did it revert to a blank value. As this was an issue for a very long time.

Have you confirmed that GMC has received the barcodes?

Thanks for your feedback.
