Hi,
I really need some help, Hopefully somebody can give me the conclusive answer to this problem.
When i upload a high quality image into dawn theme and set it as a Banner Image it comes out blurry
and not as sharp and crispy as the image actually is.
I´ve tried numerous image sizes and nothing works, it stays blurry. In desktop mode and mobile. Why does it need to be this difficult, for something that should be incredibly easy in my opinion, i really don’t understand this.
With other images in dawn i also had problems but managed to fix it after a lot of trying, but not with the Banner image.
How can i get this annoying problem solved? Can it be solved or should i ditch dawn theme all together?
Many Thanks,
Mike

Hi,
I checked your store and found there are no image issues except for the banner image.
The coding for the banner image has no issues and it makes image loading for responsive image size.
I downloaded the banner image and checked the clarity & sharpness. After I edited the image with a sharpening filter and brightness adjustment by Photoshop, the image look very clear and crispy. The image I uploaded to the banner in Dawn Theme looks a lot better. The screenshot of the image is as below.
Your store banner image:

You may visit the temporary store at

and compare the image with your banner image.
The image I used on the site.
If you spend a bit more time to edit the images (for sharpen & brightness adjustment), you can make the images better. However, your store looks great.
PS. After I post this reply, I found two other replies.
The current PageSpeed on Google Lighthouse (https://pagespeed.web.dev/) is not the actual page loading speed. It will redirect to the password protected page and that’s NOT the actual speed report.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Hope it helps.
Thanks.
Hi David,
Thanks a Lot, you are amazing! I’m so happy you managed to fix it.
I will try to edit the images again and see if i can get the same result as you. I don´t fully understand why i didn´t manage to get the same result as you. When i check the image in my editing sw (GIMP) it looks fine but after uploading quality goes down by a lot.
What Banner image size do you recommend for the best result?
Thanks again, you are a great help!
@MikeMarlon
Hi,
The good banner size for these days is 1920px X 1080px (Full Screen Presentation).
For the mobile banner size is 480px X 480px (but I use 840px X 840px for mobile & tablet).
The users of tablet are very small amount but the mobile users are 62%-78% depends on the locations.
However, 1920px X 1080px image size is good enough for most users.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Hi @MikeMarlon ,
While it looks like your question was answered by @DavidEKim , I wanted to add that we do have recommended image sizes for the Dawn theme.
If your images are the correct sizes but are still blurry, then the likely cause is the resolution of the initial image itself. Please ensure that you are not condensing the image, or saving it multiple times in different formats and so on, as this can reduce the quality of the image sharply.
Incidentally, your paracords look really really cool! Do you make them yourself? If so, have you thought about telling visitors a little about the production process?
If you do not make them, you can still go into great depth about why you sell these products and your overarching brand mission. I love that the brand name Roninn (ronin) originates from Japan, and was the name used for warriors (Samurai) who no longer served their masters. This rebellious spirit and individualism needs to be elaborated on in your content and in your marketing.
So how do you intend on approaching marketing? And what is your content strategy?
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your reply and feedback! really appreciate it. Great to hear you like the Paracord Bracelets! The production of these Paracord Bracelets is being outsourced. So i’m not directly involved in the production process itself. But you have a good point regarding going more in to depth why i sell these products and how this relates to the brand mission. This is something i will definitely look in to how to communicate this to my audience. But for now I’m working according to the Lean Startup philosophy, Which means i have to start with a minimal viable product (Basic Product, Webstore, Marketing, Copy etc.) and optimize from there. So I Build, Measure, Learn and repeat. And hopefully i will find some traction to keep building the brand.
Regarding Content and Marketing. At this moment i’m focusing on this part of business. To be honest i’m struggling with creating content that fits and resonates with the brand and its philosophy. And just as important appeals to my target audience. My gear has it’s limitations, so i have to find a way to create great content within these limitations. But it’s part of the process. I will figure it out. What i do know is that i will use paid marketing (FB) and email marketing primarily. Email marketing i already set up but now i’m working on content to use for my FB Ads. Beside these channels i will also utilize other socials like Insta and Pinterest to build some trust within my audience. But the focus will mainly be on Paid ads and Email.
Thanks again for your positive feedback!
Best Regards, Mike
It’s great to hear you have a philosophy you want to adhere to that will direct you on your path!
With that said, I want to point out that “the lean startup method first identifies a problem that needs to be solved. It then develops a minimum viable product or the smallest form of the product that allows entrepreneurs to introduce it to potential customers for feedback” (read more here).
So what problem is it that you are solving for your customers? If you’re not sure what that problem is, you’re off to a difficult start - no matter how lean you’re attempting to be.
I think that you want to avoid falling into the traps a lot of start-up businesses fall into. Here are 10 Common Small Business Mistakes to Avoid, and you’ll notice that at number three we list Not assessing your business idea. Your business idea is your way of addressing the problems you’re trying to solve for your customers.
You’ll also need to know your target audience. If you know your friend well enough, you’ll usually know the best advice to give them. Likewise, if you know your customer well enough, you’ll know what troubles them and how to rectify it.
I hope this helps! Happy to chat further if you have more thoughts or questions.
