Why is my Buy X, Get Y discount code not working at checkout?

We have a discount code set up for Buy X, Get Y and it’s throwing an error at checkout “SSBOGO21 discount code isn’t valid for the items in your cart”. We have already sent out an promotional eblast for this sale and it’s not working. Please advise as to how we can quickly resolve this.

Buy x get y requires all items to be present in the cart. Look like you don’t add the get y items in the cart. The customers have to add the item manually,
