SSL Pending is supposed to take no more than 48 hours.
When creating my custom domain, it was stuck on SSL Pending for more than 4 days.
Topic summary
Custom domain’s SSL certificate remains in “SSL Pending” for over 4 days, exceeding the typical under-48-hour provisioning window. “SSL Pending” indicates the SSL certificate for the domain hasn’t finished issuing/activating yet.
Support guidance focuses on third‑party domain setup and DNS verification. Merchants should confirm DNS records at their domain provider are correctly pointing to Shopify and consult the Third‑Party Domains documentation if needed.
Required DNS settings:
- A record → 23.227.38.65
- Host (if applicable) → [email removed]
- Remove any other A records on the domain
- CNAME for “www” → shops.myshopify.com
If DNS is already correct, next steps are to escalate to Shopify Support for account‑specific investigation. Access via the Help Center: enter “Contact Support,” log into the shop, and choose a support option. Contacting the domain provider may also help resolve DNS issues.
Outcome/status: No resolution in‑thread. Action items are DNS verification and support escalation. Discussion remains open/ongoing.
Hi @surge2 ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with your domain, to ensure this gets resolved. To confirm I’m fully understanding, have you connected a third-party domain to the shop?
If so, I’d recommend confirming that the DNS Records are correctly pointing to Shopify. These settings can be located by heading over to your domain provider. If you’re having some troubles with this, I’d encourage you to connect with the third-party domain provider directly as they will be able to share more information with you. To learn more about connecting your domain, you can check out our Third-Party Domains document as it touches on this further.
The DNS Records must match the following:
- Point the A record to the Shopify IP address
23.227.38.65. - If necessary, change the Host name to the
@symbol. - Delete any other A records on the domain if there are any present.
- Point the CNAME record with the name www to
shops.myshopify.com
If you have confirmed that the DNS Records are correctly pointing to Shopify, you can then connect with us directly. This will allow our support team to investigate further, as we wouldn’t have access to any account specific information through the Community. They will be able to determine why it’s stuck in a pending state and ensure it gets resolved.
To connect with us, you can:
- Head over to our Help Center.
- Enter into the chat box Contact Support.
- Log into your shop.
- Select one of the available support options.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
