Why is my domain still needing attention after fixing everything?

Topic summary

Domain connection showing “Needs attention” after setup. Core issues cited include DNS errors and “SSL pending.” Some domains were bought on Shopify (auto-config expected), others are third‑party.

Key causes and indicators:

  • Propagation delay: changes can take up to 48 hours to reflect.
  • DNS misconfiguration: A record must point to 23.227.38.65 for Shopify; CAA (Certificate Authority Authorization), DNSSEC (DNS Security Extensions), and nameserver records must be correct.
  • SSL pending: certificate issuance may wait on proper DNS or propagation.

Actions recommended:

  • In Shopify admin > Settings > Domains, open the domain to see specific error details.
  • For third‑party domains, follow Shopify’s manual DNS guide and wait up to 48 hours.
  • For Shopify‑purchased domains, configuration is automatic; if issues persist, contact Shopify Support (authentication required) for account‑specific checks.
  • Clear browser cache/cookies if the site works publicly but the warning persists.
  • Set the correct Primary domain in Settings > Domains.

Outcomes:

  • Some cases resolved after propagation or cache clearing; storefronts became accessible.
  • Others likely require direct Support intervention (e.g., persistent DNS errors or domains linked to the wrong account).

Notes: Screenshots provided showed the exact “Needs attention”/DNS error messages.

I fixed everything but it says my domain needs attention

Hey @Moises-Peguero .

Thanks for reaching out.

Just to gather some additional context, could you let us know if you purchased this domain directly from the Shopify platform? Or, did you connect your third-party domain to your online store? As this information will allow us to assist you better in this situation.

If this is a third-party domain, you may need to make changes to the domains DNS settings to connect it directly with your store. We do have a great step-by-step guide available that can walk you through making these changes here: Connect your third-party domain to Shopify.

Looking forward to your response.

I bought the Domain off the Shopify platform nowhere else.

Hey @Moises-Peguero .

Thanks for the quick response.

When you navigate to the purchased domain, does it take you directly to your online store? Would you mind sharing the URL with me?

In some cases, it can take up to 48 hours for the domain to be successfully connected to your online store.

Looking forward to your response.

It doesn’t take me directly to the website at all and sure here’s the link www.modernstyleemporium.com.co

By the way I fixed that 2 days ago. The A record I already fixed it 2 days ago.

@Ollie So what is the solution to that exactly?

Hey @Moises-Peguero .

Thanks for providing that screenshot and additional context.

Typically, when you purchase a domain directly off of the Shopify platform, the domains DNS settings will be configured to point towards your online store automatically. In this case, I believe we will need to take a further look at the domain to advise the next steps. Since I cannot authenticate you over the Community forums due to the sensitive information that needs to be shared, I am unable to view the specifics.

You can get in touch with our live support by logging intoy our online store using the Contact Us page.

Once you successfully login - you will be directed to the Help Center. Select the topic that you would like assistance with to locate the options to Get Support and speak directly witha Support Advisor about the domain.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks @Ollie I appreciate it!

In some cases, it may provide additional insight to why the domain is displaying the "needs attention" tag.

Hey @GearOut .

Thanks for reaching out on this thread.

Did you happen to make any DNS changes to the third-party domain to have it successfully pointed towards your store? We do have a great article on the Help Center that can walk you through the changes that need to be made to the third-party domain to have it manually connected to your online store. With that being said, if you have made these changes to the third-party domain - it can take up to 48 hours for the changes to be reflected.

Hey @ReeseG .

Thanks for reaching out on this thread.

When I navigated to the store URL that you have shared, I did not receive any specific error messages that would prevent me from viewing the homepage. With that being said, are you currently unable to view the online storefront when using that domain? I am just trying to get a better understanding of the situation so I can assist you accordingly.

Looking forward to your response.

I have some problems with my domain. I got a domain off Squarespace and cancelled the domain and now I bought a domain off of Shopify and it says the following see screenshot:

Hey @eliteessentials

Thanks for reaching out and providing that screenshot.

Are you still experiencing issues with your domain? The reason I am asking is because when I navigate to the URL in the screenshot, I am able to view the storefront.

I did want to bring to your attention that you can change your primary domain by navigating to Settings > Domain. This will allow your new domain to be displayed on your storefront for your visitors to see.

Let me know what you think, looking forward to your response.

same here think I connected a square space domain to the wrong Shopify account and now it says *need attention and to many domains connected somone help :sob: :sob:
