Why is my email forwarding not working correctly?

Hi!

I’m trying to set up e-mail forwarding but it doesn’t seem to be working. I tried several options to redirect, both to a Gmail address and my own mail address, but it keep getting back with a virus warning.

I don’t want to use third party.

I’m not able to find the default DNS settings either. Does someone have these for me, so I can check these are all correct? I took over a webshop from someone and want to double check the issue isn’t due to incorrect DNS settings. Domain was purchased via Shopify.

Thanks for reaching out with your question.

Since you purchased your domain via Shopify, your DNS settings are automatically configured and you do not need make any edits. For future reference, you can find your DNS settings for Shopify-managed domains under Settings > Domains > Manage > DNS settings. By default they are:

Email forwarding is also set-up under your manage domain section.

To help further narrow the issue down, can you show me a screenshot of what you see when you receive a forwarded email? This way, I can get a better idea of what else might be going on.

Thanks for replying. I saw my IP is 23.277.38.72.

I tried to test the forwarding again, but now the mail isn’t coming through at all. Tried multiple times but nothings ending up in my inbox. Previously I had an error message saying it would contain I virus, but now nothing. I added a printscreen.

I also see the a MX record is added. This doesn’t seem like it’s default, so I also tried deleting it. But it keeps coming back :sweat_smile: Don’t know if this is normal.

I added a printscreen of my DNS settings as well. Hope you can help me out here. Thanks!

Just received the error message. Please see attachment.

It says:
There was a temporary problem delivering your message to support@designyourposter.com. Gmail will keep trying for another 45 hours. You will receive a notification if the delivery definitely fails.

I’ll be helping Olivia with this one, as she’s away from the office. I’ve taken a look at your screenshots and it looks like you’re forwarding the email to a third-party hosted email. Can you confirm where this email is hosted from?

We encourage using a free hosted email (eg. Gmail) for email forwarding, as some third-party hosted emails that enforces DKIM can’t be used for email forwarding. However, if the email provider doesn’t enforce DKIM, then you can get the A and MX records for their mailservers and add them to your Shopify DNS settings.

With that said, I understand that you’ve also tried using your Gmail but that was triggering a security warning. It looks like we’ll need to access your account in order to resolve this issue.
