Am using the Expanse theme. The pages I built out for services are not loading very quickly. Is it all about image sizes? Could there be other issues I need to look at? Just seems to buffer before image appears. Want it to be laser quick. How can I do this please?
You should use Google PageSpeedInsights, which will give you some tips on where to focus on. To be honest, your site speed is not bad. It shows 42 for mobile which not sound great, but if your target audience are mostly using 4G or equivalent internet, you would be fine. The score is calculated by Google simulating your site speed using 3G connection, so may or may not be representative to your actual target audience. I assume your site is not getting a lot of daily traffic, as Google does not have the actual real user data to form the assessment (it says so on the website).
I would start from the pagespeed and see if there are any specific pages that you need to focus on. Google highlight the issues for you, but sadly some of these are hard to tackle. For example loading third party is a big component, but sadly most of these scripts are from shopify, google’s own Tag Manager and facebook, so not huge amount you can do here.
As I said, unless your customers are actually using 3G connection, your page speed for mobile is not overly alarming to me. But that’s just my two cents.
Really appreciate this, thank you! Felt like I was stabbing in the dark so great to have some insights, will give your suggestions a go. Yes, need to get more traffic. Just relaunched with new theme. Hoping new format will work better. Definitely a work in progress. Thanks again for the above.
There are some quite beginner friendly guides on Shopify that gives you some overall insights on things you can and cannot control as well. As I said before, a lot can get really technical quickly, but if you don’t have enough bandwidth, just make sure to focus on the important things first!
