Why is my first Shopify order through Paypal still pending?

Hello everyone,

I am new to Shopify and I had my first order and the customer paid via paypal which is fine, but it says it has been pending for a few days. Does it usually take that long through paypal?

Have you checked on your Paypal account about the status of this transaction?

  • If this fund has been deposited there but in the Shopify admin page it still says " Pending", then it would be fine. Normally, transactions should never remain in a pending state for longer than 48 hours but if this happens, this is because Shopify never receives the notification from PayPal that the payment has cleared on PayPal’s end, and so the status of the payment remains as ‘Pending’.

  • If the funds have not been deposited in your Paypal account yet, then you should contact Paypal directly for an investigation to get a suitable solution.

As a seller, this is something that can happen sometimes.
Depending on the payment method (debit card, bank transfer, credit card ), through PayPal, it could take up to 7 days before getting cleared. Check your Paypal account to make sure you got the fund before shipping this order!
