Why is my one-time discount code not working?

Topic summary

A merchant created a one-time use discount code that displays as active in their Shopify admin but consistently returns an “invalid code” error when customers attempt to use it at checkout.

Troubleshooting Steps Provided:

  • Temporarily rename the discount code in Shopify admin
  • Test the discount at checkout with the new name
  • Manually type (not copy-paste) the original code name back, character by character
  • Save and retest

Resolution:
The issue was identified as a special character or symbol in the discount code name. Removing the problematic symbol resolved the error, allowing the code to function properly at checkout.

I recently set up a one time use discount code for customers but it’s not working for anyone. I’ve attached screenshots that shows it’s active but when it’s entered it keeps saying the code is invalid. Any ideas on what to do?

Hi, @RGchainmail .

Can you share a link to your website here with us so that we can test out the discount code on your store’s checkout?

Looking forward to hearing back.

Thanks for sharing that link with us, @RGchainmail .

I’ve just tested the discount code from my end and was met with the same error message as you. Because of this, can you follow the steps below to troubleshoot this?

  1. Navigate to your Discount code page within the Shopify admin, and edit your discount code name to something else for the time being, as seen below:

  2. Once you’ve saved the new discount code name, feel free to change it back to its original code name of L&K15. Make sure that you type each letter out, do not copy and paste the name onto the discount code box. Save your page once the discount code has been updated back to its original code name.

  3. Test your discount code again on checkout.

Let me know how this goes.
