Why is my payments account on hold while setting up?

I’m setting up payments and getting the message that my shopify payments account is on hold

Hi @kathrynziegler

I can definitely understand your concern if your payments account was paused right after setting it up. I want to assure you though that this is generally a standard review to ensure your business is a good fit for Shopify Payments and that your business is in good standing.

If our business operations team requires any additional information from you the banner in your admin will update, either with a request to submit some documents or to contact our live support. If for any reason the hold lasts longer than 5 days without an update, please don’t hesitate to contact our live support channels to let them know. Generally you should see it resolved by then.

If you aren’t sure if your business is a good fit for Shopify Payments, I would encourage you to review our Terms of Service for Shopify Payments (Section B5 for prohibited businesses) for good measure.

What kind of products are you selling in your store? I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have about this process.

Thank you Shay! I think I have it set up now.
Is it possible to switch from Shopify payments to stripe though?

Glad to hear you were able to get that resolved!

In regards to Stripe, they are one of our banking partners who help us power Shopify Payments. Most countries that are eligible to use Shopify Payments will not have the option enabled to setup Stripe instead. Their eligibility requirements would be the same or very similar to ours and there would be additional fees since they would be considered a 3rd party payment gateway.

In unique circumstances this can be reviewed though. If you have negotiated rates that you want to take advantage of or a long standing account with them, our payments team may be able to unlock that feature for you. I would reach out to our live support to request a review if that is something you would like to check on.
