Traveled to an event last month and brought the POS Go with me to use on site. Found out the WiFi wouldn’t work with the unit. Tried to connect to my Personal Hotspot on my iPhone and no luck either. Managed to use my iPad and Tap n Chip reader for sales BUT this is an expensive unit that is collecting dust as it’s not usable at pop-up shops. Wanted to warn others of the problem as well.
Testing prior to an event isn’t practical as most of these events are out-of-town. Tried using my personal Hotspot and wouldn’t connected. Contacted support on site, while trying to conduct business too, and they couldn’t help. Said they would call back and didn’t do that for another 4+ hours, and at a time when I couldn’t respond. Cellular data didn’t work either.
The POS go can only use Wifi to process payments. Which does not make it a true mobile device. It has to be tethered to a hotspot. There is not an option to connect it using a wire. So trying to use it when it wont connect to the iPad Wifi Network makes it useless. Same problem as the chip reader.
I found this out as well when it was first released. I contacted support about it saying it’s expensive to not be a fully mobile device.
A few weeks after, I saw a note about it having cellular network connectivity coming in 2023, but nothing yet.
Shopify tech is idiotic for creating this product without complete non Wi-Fi’s status.
I only do outdoor markets and pop ups and they almost never give vendors the Wi-Fi and /or it’s spotty. $400 is too much for no solid connection. We should be able to add it to our cell provider like an iPad.
I am having major issues with POS go. I had the same problem and lost so many sales. I even moved to different areas to get better wifi, and it did not fix the issue. My phone was getting a strong signal, so it was the POS Go. The issue that I having now is that I am getting a cart error when I check out. I rebooted, and it keeps giving me an error.
This worked for me when I was having this same issue!! Try a factory reset, by holding all 3 buttons for around 14 seconds? This forces the device to factory reset. Then, you’ll be able to connect to hotspot.

Still doesn’t hotspot after factory reset
It is EXTREMELY frustrating to not be able to use on the go. I had access to wifi at the country club I was in but it would only show locked/password WIFI connections not the free guest one we could use. I had to take cash only or manual which we all know costs more. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED SHOPIFY!
I agree…too much money for something that is touted as being “able to close the sale anywhere”. That is, anywhere that has a secure WiFi connection. I have used it tethered to my phone’s HotSpot and it does work. Still, not the portable unit I paid $$$ for.
