Why is my product info disappearing from the HTML editor after migrating to Shopify?

Topic summary

A user is experiencing data loss in Shopify’s HTML editor after migrating from Lightspeed Ecom. Product descriptions containing custom accordion code are disappearing after a day or two.

Key Issue:

  • Shopify indicated the content was “sanitized,” removing large portions of HTML code
  • Some products survived this process while others were completely wiped
  • The affected HTML includes custom accordion features built to compensate for Lightspeed’s limited app ecosystem

Technical Details:

  • The provided code example shows product specifications and descriptions appearing reversed/garbled in the HTML
  • Text appears backwards (e.g., “Indoor and outdoor use” displays as “esu roodtuo dna roodnI”)
  • The user has export backups but seeks advice on preventing future data loss

Status: The issue remains unresolved, with the user requesting community guidance on how to preserve custom HTML during Shopify migration.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced their product information just vanishing from the HTML editor after a day or so? We’re trying to migrate our website from Lightspeed Ecom to Shopify. Our HTML contains some coding for an accordion feature to hide / display product info sections because lightspeed had very limited add-ons or apps that offred us that feature so we had to build that ourselves (and we’re not I.T. specialists!).

Shopify have suggested that the data has been “sanitised” which has caused a very large portion of our work to be deleted (but thankfully I have an export of it). Its basically deleted everything from the HTML editor but there were some products that survived the sanitisation.

I’ve included an example of one of the affected products below. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!
